My Story
While shifting to homeschooling can be challenging. I didn't said that going to public school is not the right choice. It was just too tired for me to see many children experience stress with lots of homework after coming back from school. Many children nowadays do not have time to do what they like. They not even have time to engage in their hobbies because after spend half day in school, they need to spend time for their homework, tuition, revision and going to enrichment classes chosen by their parents.
When my eldest son has problem coped with stress due to school homework, we did reached out to the principle and teachers and arranged few meetings. But they won't help a lot. He still coming back home with unhappy face and with piles of homework. Then, as time went by, he started to develop depression. One day, he hurt his ear and we need to send him for ear surgery. It was heart breaking to see him crying. When decision was made after many many times discussion with my husband and after many many meeting with all my buddies from all over the world, we told him that he didn't have to go back to school. It really took his stress away immediately. We unschooled him for one month to let him rest to come down after such a traumatic experience. We also went for a holiday which really made him came back to his own happy life.
After one month, he started to get back to the life that he really like, (such as what he had during his kindergarten years). In the morning, he studies for 3 hours with break time and after lunch and shower, he will have time to involve in different activities which I arranged in my homeschool (from playing chess, to LEGO ®, to kitchen, computing, sport and many more). He also back to outdoor everyday and also has the time to sit down, hearing me telling stories to him and to his brother.
Today, I am so thankful to God for His arrangement. I met many amazing people in my life. And for my son, he is a very happy kid now and a lot more confident and sure of himself. I am thankful I have time to spend with him now. We cook, bake and play together. And for myself, I took Certificate of Play Therapy so that I am able to help him and other children to cope with anxiety and stress. I am also on my way to complete my PHD in Education.
